Historical Prisoner of War Carving from the Boer War

Rare Carved Box signed by two prisoners, W. Pienaar and P. Venter, held at English prison on Island of Bermuda during the Boer War. This box is unusual not only because it is signed, but because it was executed after the war ended in 1902. Most likely this indicates that the men who created this box were detained after the war’s end because they refused to ally themselves to the British and thus gain their freedom. Wood retains a rich patina and is in excellent condition. Box measures 8 ¼ \" long by 4\" deep.
